The Two Main Current Issues that Christianity is Facing

In the last couple years, the trend of the best seller books has change rapidly. Many of them are Christianity related books. The books are from the well known 'Purpose Driven Live' by Rick Warren to the fiction book 'The DaVinci Code' by Dan Brown. This trend is the affect on the change of the world's ideology in the last five years.

The problem to Christianity rise when many Christians can't distinguish between facts and fictions in books like the DaVinci Code or other similar fiction books. Even worse, the number of misleading Christian is not lesser than the non Christian. A lot of time when a non-Christian ask religious question to Christians, they simply give them vague answers. This shows that Christian people do not know better about Christian theology comparing to non-Christian people.

Nowadays, you can find it easily the fiction books that are trying to change the truth of Christianity believe in your neighborhood bookstore, because the books have been the best seller books. With such strong influences, some questions are rise among us. The questions are why such mistaken believe can be builted gradually or even exists among Christian? Shouldn't be the Christian more critical with those trend or fiction books? Shouldn't Christian be the defender of their beliefs?

The Two Main Current Issues that Christianity is Facing

Clearly, there are serious issues with Christianity today. In this article, you will find that there are two main current issues that Christianity is facing.

Inward problem within Christianity

First issue is inward problem within Christianity. The inward problem can be divided into two major concerns, which are the lack of biblical knowledge, and lack of fellowship.

Most of Christians are lack of biblical knowledge. According to Barna Group Survey only 47 percent of Christian in the US read the Scripture during a typical week. Bible is God's Word, and the foundation of Christian belief. Thus, many Christian doesn't know their fundamental believe anymore. If we, as Christian, don't even read the Scripture anymore, how can we distinguish the biblical truth? In 2 Timothy 3:16, it is clearly stated that 'All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."

As Christians we always have to strengthen our fellowship with God and among believers. Also according to the survey, church attendance is only 47 percent in 2006 and Sunday school attendance is only 24 percent at the same year. Church and Sunday school are where Christian can gather and build fellowship with God and within Christian community.

In 1 John 1:5-7 the Scripture says that 'This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.' If we have a low percentage of church and Sunday school attendance, clearly that Christians are in fact walks in the darkness.

In Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12, it is also clearly states the importance of the fellowship with believers. By fellowship with believers, we can support each other up, so if one falls, the other can help him or her up. This way, we would not be vulnerable against the wrong teaching.

Outward problem of Christianity

Second issue is outward problem of Christianity. Less and less Christian interested to be a witness to others about the truth of gospel. Christians forget to become salt and light, as Jesus commanded. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus has clearly command us to 'Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. '

To be honest, how many person that we have share about the gospel in last month alone? We probably have not done it at all. Many people think that religion is very private things, and they don't even bother to preach the truth to unbelievers. These are because individualism and new age movement have poisoned Christian mind from being evangelism. In fact, we have to change that and prevent those wrong teaching from poisoning our mind and back to the basic teaching of the bible.

Look at the two main current issues facing Christianity, clearly that we as Christians have to pray to solve these inward and outward issues. By resolving these issues, hopefully we can build a stronger faith of Christianity and our community. In addition, we also can be the light and salt to the non Christian people, so we can straighten the mistaken view of our Lord, Jesus Christ, to non Christian people who are influenced from the fiction book or other mistaken resources.

The Driving Test in Ireland... Fact or Fiction? An Instructors View

The Driving Test here in Ireland has assumed epic stature and is now a more popular subject then the latest Harry Potter Movie or Spy Blockbuster.

As with any exam, Written, Oral or Practical the reasons for failure can be attributed to just about any natural or unnatural phenomenon that you can think of.

Anything but the truth!

The Driving Test in Ireland... Fact or Fiction? An Instructors View

Myths and horror stories surrounding the Driving Test are the stuff of Legend and grow exponentially with each passing day as new legions (Nay Armies!) of Driving Test candidates exchange their experiences with anyone who will listen.

There is a very willing Audience since one in Ten of the Population in Ireland are Learner Drivers on a provisional license!

Yes... Nearly one in five of those individuals you see behind the driving wheel are Learner Drivers. That is twenty per cent of the total vehicle traffic in Ireland, discounting commercial vehicles.

Why with these numbers there should be a new T.V Channel devoted to the issue wouldn't you agree? Certainly the level of media coverage has been on the increase for the last while perhaps due to the approach of the General Election next year.

Learning the ropes from someone who has been there, done that, whether successfully or not, is a very worthwhile use of your time and could even be entertaining at a pinch. However, and here's the crunch...listening to tales of woe or the usual litany of excuses dished out by most failed candidates will not help you to any great extent. In fact they won't help you at all!

Why? Because there is no short cut to Driving Test Success, although it would appear that the average Learner Driver in Ireland believes that there is.

Let us have a look at some Fiction...

There must be a magical potion that should surely be available over the counter without prescription?

It would contain the following benefits (apart from being easy to swallow!)

(a) An inalienable right to sit behind the wheel.

(b) A complete "get rid of your Driving Instructor and forget Driving Lessons" side effect.

(c) Instructions on how to start and move your car down the road after purchase (essential).

(d) On the dosage instructions there should also be an extensive phrase book with useful and character enhancing quotes to impress all your friends. This would be something on the lines of:-

(e) "All a complete load of baloney "

(f) "A government money making racket."

(g) "A Driving School money making racket"

(h) "Get lessons from your Sister, Brother, next door neighbour and you'll be fine"

(i) "The Driving Tester's are all useless and wouldn't recognise a good driver even if they collided with one"

There is no short cut to Passing the Driving Test in Ireland.

Now for a Selection of the Facts.

(1) While it is a sample of some of the skills needed to survive and stay alive the Driving Test is only the beginning of a Driving Career and the start of the Learning experience.

(2) The Driving Test continues to evolve and with each new addition to the test curriculum it is becoming more difficult to pass.

(3) If it is becoming more difficult to Pass the Driving Test then it follows that more study and preparation, not less, needs to be faced.

(4) Taking the Driving Test before you have learnt not just the basics but more advanced techniques will lead to disappointment...often more times than once.

(5) The number of Candidates just not turning up for the Driving Test has quite an impact on the lengthening of the waiting list for an appointment.

(6) No Shows run at sometimes as much as ten per cent at Driving Test Centres.

(7) The New Test Centres on Ireland's East coast and the couple inland that are hosting the one year, privately contracted Driving Tests will only keep the waiting list from growing longer. This move to a one year privatisation of additional Driving Tests will not achieve the comparable reduction in waiting time for a Test of just a few weeks, as in the U.K.

(8) The growth in numbers of Learner Drivers appearing on the Driving Scene in Ireland, due to demographics and immigration, will make the Test Date reduction times a significant obstacle for the next few years.

(9) The many new pieces of legislation in the wings will have a beneficial effect in time but not overnight. Driving School Accreditation Registration and Monitoring will bring a new dimension to the whole area of Learning to Drive in Ireland as European standards are embraced.

(10) Currently there is no culture of Driving Tuition in Ireland and a vast majority of Learner Drivers take no professional lessons which of course has lead to a skills level that is way below par.

(11) The below par, and below European Standard of a vast majority of Drivers in Ireland has naturally led to one of the worst positions in the accident league table.

(12) Every adult driver and parent in Ireland can play a part in improving the attitude of Beginner Drivers from the moment they put a passenger in their car, whether a child or an adult. There is a need for Parental awareness which is lacking. Parents can influence the behaviour of any child from a very early age

It is obvious, even to the casual observer from any other European country or further distant land that the solution to the poor standard of Driving in Ireland lies in Driver Education that is formally structured, monitored and enforced.

There is a very good chance that any young driver, with the proper tuition and encouragement will turn out to be a competent and safe Driver and having achieved a reasonable level of understanding will sail through the Driving Test in Ireland.

Create Emotion, Not Sentimentality, in Fiction

Good writing requires the use of emotion, both in the writing and from or in the writer. What? Emotion in the writing itself and the author? Yes, good writing does require emotion from the words and from the writer. Actually, good writing requires creative and effective use, not overuse, of emotion.

Preparing fiction, whether in a short story or novel, without emotion results in telling rather showing. Telling a story may provide the readers with necessary information, but showing allows the reader to "see" the events, actions, and plot unfold. Showing emotion without resorting to sentimentality is a major component in writing vivid, powerful stories that readers can visualize.

In high school and college, most classes concentrate on thought, on the mind.. Teachers and professors encourage, even require, students to use big words, figures of speech, literary devices, and long, dense sentences to create emotion in writing.

Create Emotion, Not Sentimentality, in Fiction

Yes, figures of speech and literary devices have a place in poetry. Yes, if used sparingly and creatively in fiction, figures of speech can convey complicated emotions. However, when overused or misused, figurative language, according to Stephen King, in On Writing, "the results are funny and sometimes embarrassing."

Yet emotions are necessary in fiction writing. According to Dianna Dorisi-Winget in "Let's Get Physical! Writing Emotion in Fiction," since emotions are such an integral part of the human condition, "... fiction writers must employ description that accurately expresses a character's feelings." However, she continues, simplistic and overused descriptions leave the reader unmoved. Using clichés (these simplistic and overused words or phrases) results in sentimentality.

When we talk or read about highly-emotional subjects like romance and death, we are tempted to use clichés. After all they are found everywhere and represent the shortcuts we use in song and word. Kristen Williams, in "No Place for Hallmark," stresses this need to avoid these shortcuts in items we write.

Williams defines sentimentality as the exaggerated and affected use of emotion in writing. Affected is further explained as being most often connected to clichés and melodrama, which "affect" emotion, showing only the surface with no substance or justification, no foundation. These types of writing emotion no new perspective on the experience but are shortcuts.

Writers, especially beginners, use sentimentality because doing so is easy. Admitting or describing complicated situations is hard. Using sentimentality means presenting things in black and white, not delving into the complications that actually exist. "Good writers," Williams says, "will dive right into this complexity instead of staying on the surface."

James Scott Bell echoes this thought in his article "Leave Them With Hope": "Delve into your character's heart. As the author, you must feel the big emotions as much as your fictional creation does."

Authors can avoid sentimentality without losing emotion needed to reach readers. The writer simply has to deal with the emotion in an original and complex manner by trying to avoid abstract words and ideas. This is accomplished by staying with concrete descriptions. As Bell stated, the author must experience the emotion and describe it with the five senses, write it as he "feels" it. Abstract words and ideas can be interpreted by others in different ways, relying on the readers' definition. Details are required to make the emotion live.

How can writers avoid "sentimentality"? One exercise is to list common reactions to an emotion. Then the author examines those physical reactions that emotions produce, and simple and overused descriptions are physical reactions to emotion. However the idea is to find other ways to explain those reactions so that the reader isn't left unmoved. "The trick," Dorisi-Winget says, "is tapping into your 'emotion memory.' Get beyond the pounding heart and clenched fist."

If describing fear, the "sick stomach" might become the tilting like the time seasickness caused lunch to want to escape. The details tell the tale; if used creatively and well, the details "show" the tale.

Writers don't have to abandon abstract thoughts and words completely, but the majority of description should be concrete. Williams says she uses no more than twenty percent abstract and at least eighty percent detail when using emotion in her writing.

Avoiding sentimentality allows the writer's perspective to be used, not someone else's. Writers then create the emotion required in "good" pieces of fiction.

Noni Fruit Benefits

In the last ten years, some marketers have come under fire for ascribing miraculous cure-all properties to noni fruit, claiming that it can single-handedly prevent, treat, or cure everything imaginable, including arthritis, burns, cancer, cold, diabetes, drug addiction, fever, fractures, gingivitis, headaches, heart disease, immune weakness, indigestion, malaria, menstrual cramps, ringworm, sprains, stroke, and wounds.

To separate fact from fiction, noni fruit is not a cure-all, but it is a valuable food supplement. It is still unclear exactly how noni fruit benefits your health, or to what extent, but there are some widely agreed-upon characteristics of noni fruit. For example, anecdotal accounts of the anti-swelling effects of noni fruit consumption are numerous. And scientific studies have shown that a polysaccharide-rich substance called "noni-ppt" helps correct the immune system and fight tumors.

Furthermore, noni fruit benefits health in a general way, containing such disease-fighting effects as: antiseptics, bactericides, fungicides, laxatives, antioxidants, anesthetics, candidacide, cathartics, analgesics, cancer-preventatives, detoxicants, and so on. In other words, noni fruit is widely reported as a possible supplement for treating infections, pain, diabetes and - perhaps - some forms of cancer.

Noni Fruit Benefits

Finally, noni fruit may contain a molecule called proxeronine, which transforms into xeronine in the body, and is said to account for many of noni's health benefits. Unfortunately, the University of Hawaii professor who named the molecule said that it is nearly impossible to detect, and as of yet, no one else has found it. Despite this, many people continue to believe in its existence, and continue to consume noni fruit products for this molecule. Regardless of the controversy, noni fruit appears to benefit the health of hundreds of thousands of people who consume it every day.

Debt Cures Review - Is Kevin Trudeau's Latest Book A Scam?

Anyone staying up late at night has probably seen an infomercial promoting one of Kevin Trudeau's latest "cures" books - weight loss cure and natural cures. I saw the infomercial for his latest one, Debt Cures, and wanted to see what it was about. This article will highlight my experience with ordering Debt Cure$.

Love him or hate him, Kevin Trudeau pushes people's buttons and gets them talking. Type in the title of one of his books and you'll see several complaints about his practices and then you'll also see some people praise his books.

So I was skeptical about this new book and wanted to offer a review.

Debt Cures Review - Is Kevin Trudeau's Latest Book A Scam?

I do not like ordering on the phone because the people on the other line have to try and sell you stuff related to the product you are purchasing because it is their job but when I ordered Debt Cures online I can imagine how bad it was for the people who have to call in.

The book sells for .95 and .95 shipping and handling. Why so much for shipping and handling? Amazon can give you free shipping for orders over so why does this book cost so much to ship?

On the website, debtcures.com, it says due to higher shipping costs, higher fuel costs and inflation that they have to charge higher shipping and handling costs.

Alright fine. So after I order the book, I expect to be upsold a few other items. And I was not let down. On the website, Kevin Trudeau tried to sell me 5 additional products that if you bought would add over 0 to your order. That to me does not sound like a way to get out of debt. Not off to a good start.

Two weeks later the book arrives in a small box just like in one of the boxes you get from Amazon when you order some books.

The infomercial states that you'll learn stuff that has never been revealed before anywhere else about the credit and lending industry. After just reading the first 2 chapters I would have to disagree. Most of the stuff he wrote about is available for free online.

One of the main points of the first two chapters is that the banks, credit card companies, and the federal government are all in cahoots to try and keep you and me in debt so we can keep making them rich. This part is true. The credit card companies love it when you just make the minimum payments on your bills. They do not want you to get out of debt. They especially like it when you miss your payment or go over the limit so they can assess a hefty fee and even raise your interest rate.

This is all true and can be read about on many credit related websites.

He talks about the practices of the banks and credit card companies and how the government lets them get away with charging high interest rates and fees because they contribute money to their campaigns. Reading these chapter will get you mad if you are not already at how much debt you have and how the lenders try and squeeze more money out of you.

Chapters 4 and 5 are where Kevin Trudeau starts to deliver on his Debt Cures promises. He offers actionable points on how to eliminate your debt, negotiate your debt down and reduce your interest rates. Some of this is also available online elsewhere but in the folksy way that Kevin talks, he makes it easy to understand and easy to take action by providing examples of what to do and say.

If you have a few thousand dollars and debt and use one of these methods to lower the amount you have to pay then the cost of the book is already paid for even if you are overcharged for shipping and handling.

In a follow up article, I will cover the remaining chapters of the book and point out the remaining good and not so good points.

Debt Cures has a passing vote so far even though Mr. Trudeau has a less than stellar reputation. But do no let that get in the way of getting help with your debt problems. This book and others like it can provide practical solutions to lowering what you owe and getting you out of the many burdens debt can put you in.

Fibroadenoma Fact and Fiction

You wake up one morning and freak out--there's a lump in your breast. You've read all of the stories and seen all of the news reports. The big C word comes to mind. You know that most women who get breast cancer are older than 40 and you are in your 30s. But your mind races to your friends' faces, friends who have had mastectomies while they were younger than 40...and who had no family history of the disease.

Your insides feel squishy but your heart rate is soaring. You try to calm yourself as, with your hands shaking, you dial your OB-GYN. "I found a lump," you say. "I need to see you today." And your doctor, who understands what you are going through, asks you to come in right away.

After seeing the doctor, you are sent for a sonogram or maybe a mammogram, or maybe even both. The lump is solid, but it moves when manipulated by the doctor's fingers. She is certain it is not a cyst, since it is too solid and the attempt at needle aspiration didn't work.

Fibroadenoma Fact and Fiction

The core-needle biopsy comes next. You waver between negative thoughts and positive ones, on an emotional roller coaster. Your friends and family assure you everything will be fine. You wish you could be so certain.

But the call the next day is better than expected--no cancer. What you have is a fibroadenoma, a firm, non-cancerous tumor of the gland. You'll have to go back to the doctor's or breast center for repeated ultrasounds, about every six months, to check its status and so the doctors can keep track of its growth rate. The doctors seem to be taking a "wait and see approach", which you aren't sure is re-assuring; but you try to convince yourself, if they aren't worried, you shouldn't be either.

Over the next few weeks, you search the Net to learn all you can. WebMD says it is smooth, round and painless. You disagree, especially around your period when the tumor downright hurts.

You do more research and talk to more friends. One friend confessed to having surgery twice to remove hers. She said they grew almost golf ball size and were very painful. And according to Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book by Susan M. Love, M.D. (Perseus Books), fibroadenomas "can vary in size from a tiny five millimeters to a lemon-sized five centimeters." You're glad yours is on the smaller ender of that scale.

One thing the doctor did tell you was to get off the Pill. It seems the estrogen in birth control pills could make the tumor's size increase. And you don't want to take any chances with that. You continue to do research and you feel a little more reassured when you read the line "Fibroadenomas are harmless in themselves, and they don't have to be removed..." in Dr. Love's book. That is your plan of attack: only have surgery if it gets too painful or becomes absolutely necessary.

In the meantime, you look for preventative measures, since though Dr. Love writes, "In most cases a woman has only one fibroadenoma; it's removed, and she never gets any more. But some women do get several over their lives--and a few women get many of them." You don't want to be one of those women.
Even if preventative measures haven't been scientifically proven, you figure if it doesn't hurt you, maybe it will help. You switch to a non-hormone method of birth control. Your doctor suggested cutting out caffeine so you drink decaffeinated green tea, since it is supposed to be filled with antioxidants.

According to the book Breast Health: The Natural Way, by Deborah Mitchell and Deborah Gordon, M.D. (John Wiley and Sons), "Green tea contains high levels of polyphenols, substances that neutralize free radicals associated with cancer, and is a rich source of antioxidants. Green tea protects against breast cancer by preventing initiation of cancer growth."

You also try to cut out sugars and add more leafy vegetables and soy products. Soy products have been touted for the last decade as containing phytoestrogens (much weaker than the female sex hormone of estrogen.) Scientists at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit demonstrated how genistein, a phytoestrogen found in soy products, inhibits growth of certain breast cancer cells.

You know you don't have breast cancer, and that fibroadenomas don't in any way predispose you to cancer, but you are taking precautions. As Dr. Love writes, fibroadenomas are a nuisance, and they can scare you into thinking you might have cancer--but that's the only bad things about them."

You know that. So, in addition to the changes you are making in your diet, the biggest change of all is in your attitude. No longer do you take things for granted. Your initial scare and panic has made you realize how much you take your health for granted.

You vow to be better to yourself, to not allow yourself to get so stressed out all of the time. You promise yourself you'll take better care of your body, maybe get a facial or massage occasionally. To soak in the tub and relax with a good book. To play with your kids and to appreciate your spouse more. But most of all, to count your blessings. You will get through this, and in the grand scheme of things, it may not be that big of a deal.
